"THE ULTIMATE IMPULSE BUY"
Col. Larry Bonner (rt.) and his NEW Jaguar.
Larry Bonner took his pristine 1997 XK8 to the local
dealer, Bill Knight
Jaguar, Tulsa, to have a repair made to a mirror. While waiting for his
car he noticed a really nice trade in had just arrived. Larry inquired
about the car and decided to forgo the mirror repair and just get
himself a new ride!
The car had been traded in by club member Connie Steeper, who had just
taken delivery of her 2010. That 1997 that Larry traded was gone within
24 hours to a new owner in OKC who was delighted to get a flawless XK8.
So watch out when on the highways around Tulsa. Larry’s new Jaguar is
bright red and it’s SUPERCHARGED!
Larry has been a long time, and valued member of the Tulsa Jaguar club. He was one of the First individuals in Tulsa to purchase the new XK8 (way back in 1997) when they first came out, and he also owns a very unique and rare Jaguar station wagon.
As times have changed, the Jaguar line seems to have embraced a few more "Muscle car" tendencies, and horse power has been increased. The power plant in Larry's NEW Jag is super charged, and develops close to 480-490 HP!..LOL
What a kick!! Certainly a substantial increase from his (aprox.) 360 HP that his pristine 1997, (36,000 mile) XK8 rag top was making!
When asked about the "new" cars performance Larry just chuckles, and smiles. Then he says...you know....a guy could get in trouble with a car like this if he isn't carful..LOL...LOL...
Larry (that would be Col. Larry) is a WW2 vet, and survivor of the battle of the south pacific. After his enlistment was up at the end of WW2 he went back to college, got his degree, and re-enlisted. He later retired as a Col. in the US army, as well as having had a second career with American Airlines.
Larry's always been "a local boy", having been born in the Kiefer-Mounds area to parents that were involved in the Oil business when the "great boom" was going on.
I'd just like to say that "A nicer guy couldn't own a cooler car."
And BTW Larry: Thanks for protecting our freedom with your many years of military service.
